Councillor Jessup called a karanga to welcome the guests into the Council Chamber.

 

Charles Ropitini gave an opening karakia.

 

Petera Hakiwai delivered a mihi whakatau supported by a waiata from Hastings District Council.

 

Te Rangihau Gilbert responded on behalf of Hawke’s Bay Regional Council followed by a waiata.

Hawke's Bay Regional Council Presentation on Flood Controls and Drainage Schemes in the Hastings District

The Chair, Councillor Schollum welcomed the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council (HBRC) Chair, Hinewai Ormsby, Chief Executive, Dr Nic Peet along with staff and Councillors to the meeting.

 

Hastings District Council (HDC) Mayor, Sandra Hazlehurst also extended a welcome to all mana whenua members, Hastings District Rural Community Board, HDC and HBRC staff and Councillors to join together for this meeting and the importance of moving forward in partnership.

 

HBRC Chair Hinewai Ormsby thanked HDC for the karanga, mihi whakatau received and the opportunity to share the ongoing work happening at HBRC.

 

Chris Dolley gave a PowerPoint presentation (CG-17-32-00119) and along with Hinewai Ormsby, Dr Nic Peet, Katrina Brunton, Susie Young, Te Wairama Munro responded to questions from the Committee.

 

Councillor Jessup left the room at 2.02pm and returned at 2.06pm.

 

The meeting adjourned for afternoon tea at 2.20pm and resumed at 2.32pm.

 

Councillor Harvey left the meeting at 3.15pm and did not return.

 

Ngaio Tiuka left the room at 3.19pm and returned at 3.21pm.

 

The Chair noted that there were no further questions.  The Mayor and Chair thanked the Chair, Chief Executive, Councillors and staff from the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council for an excellent presentation which was unanimously received by the Hastings District Council.

 

All parties expressed a strong desire to continue to work productively together on the Hawke’s Bay recovery of the Flood Protection Network.

A)        That the Strategy and Recovery Committee receive the Report titled Hawke's Bay Regional Council Presentation on Flood Controls and Drainage Schemes in the Hastings District dated 27 August 2024.

B)        That the Committee notes the presentation given by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council on the Heretaunga Plains Flood Control Scheme.
