The meeting opened with Deputy Chair, Councillor Chad Tareha in the Chair. Councillor Tareha remained in the Chair until Item 4 - Election of Chair and Deputy Chair.
Principal Advisor: Relationships, Responsiveness & Heritage Charles Ropitini gave a karakia and welcomed the guests from Wairoa District Council and members of the Joint Committee.
Chair, Māori Standing Committee – Henare Mita responded on behalf of Wairoa District Council.

3. Confirmation of Minutes - Te Whakamana i Ngā Miniti

That the minutes of the Ōmarunui Refuse Landfill Joint Committee Meeting held Friday 21 June 2024 be confirmed as an accurate record. |
Waste and Data Services Manager, Martin Jarvis, resumed the Chair and thanked Councillor Tareha for chairing previous meetings in his role as Deputy Chair of this Joint Committee.
Councillor Tareha then resumed the Chair for the remainder of the meeting.

The Chief Executive of Wairoa District Council – Kitea Tipuna, expressed their appreciation in allowing them to present their request to this Joint Committee. Kitea Tipuna spoke to their request in the attached letter to the report in A) in regard to a 3 year short term arrangement whilst they engage with their community and a permanent solution for disposal of waste is established.
Waste and Data Services Manager - Martin Jarvis spoke to the report and along with Waste Planning Manager - Angela Atkins, responded to questions from the Committee.
Councillor Apatu spoke of her support and acknowledged all of the Wairoa District Council team for attending in person to present their request.

Councillor Nixon/Councillor Apatu A) That the Ōmarunui Refuse Landfill Joint Committee receive the report titled Wairoa District Council Solid Waste Disposal dated 20 September 2024. B) That the Committee approve the request from the Wairoa District Council to accept up to 4,000 tonnes per annum of their solid waste at the Ōmarunui Landfill for a period of up to three years. C) That the Chief Executive, Hastings District Council (administrating authority of the Ōmarunui Landfill) be delegated authority to complete negotiations on mutually agreed terms and conditions for accepting Wairoa District Council solid waste.

The meeting adjourned at 1.22pm whilst the guests from Wairoa District Council departed
the room and the meeting resumed at 1.26pm.
Councillor Watkins left the room at 2.17pm and did not return.
